In every project each project team member have to understand what are they responsible for and what to expect from other team members.

This principle demands - each project must have short and clear documented project organization, where roles & responsabilities must be defined with three key project interests clearly defined & involved - User, Business, Supllier.

PRINCE2 states that whatever project you will have - it will always have these three essential project interest (sometimes it is hard to see those in the project without putting extra focused attention):
  • Senior User, who provide/define requirements for the project and who first will see benefit comming post-project
  • Business, who demand benefit or profit and justify investment
  • Senior Supplier, who provide needed resources for the project and delivers project result with expected quality
  • This principle demands that all those three project interests must be properly and clearly defined in the project as well as strongly engaged from the start of the project. Usually best way to make it via established strong project steering commitee.

    PRINCE2 defined these project roles that are described in details in Organization knowledge area:
  • Project steering commitee, that is highly recommemded to establish involving these 3 key roles:
    • Project owner/executive, single person with ’ full accountability and responsability for project benetif & justification
    • Senior User, those who represent project users’ responsible to provided project requirements, provide expected benefit KPI and provide information about achieved benefit post-project.
    • Senior Supplier, those who represent project suppliers’ responsible to deliver project result within agreed quality level.
  • Project manager, day to day project management based on authority given from project steering commitee.
  • Project assurance, who ask the same questions in details as project steering commitee
  • Change authority, who takes lower priority decisions of project steering commitee
  • Project support, supports project manager on day to day management of project with high focus to quality.
  • Team manager(s), team leads who coordinate project product delivery within agreed quality level. Project manager takes the same responsability in small project if team manager(s) are not present.
